Stick 'em with the Pointy End
Our spear intensive this weekend was a huge success! We were nearly at capacity for students who all came to learn how to wield a spear, a weapon many of us had never picked up before. Jesse Kulla from Chicago Swordplay Guild came to teach us the common method and its plays, as well as a little insight into the dueling method. At the end of the day we were able to put together everything we'd learned by playing a spear game in formations, which was made even better by the num

Kansas City RenFaire: Year 2
Several guild members went on our 2nd annual trip to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival this past weekend. We had a great time getting to dress up in fancy outfits (many of which were homemade), consume lots of food and mead, and even play our own game of NESG RenFaire bingo. We can’t wait for the next trip!

Unadilla Demo
We had a great time putting on a demonstration with Unadilla Community Library this past weekend! We had a few new folks on the demo team this time around. It was great getting to speak with the crowd about our art and answer their many sword-related questions. We’ve got plans for revamping our demonstration over the winter and look forward to the next time we get to put one on.

Auf Der Hut 2025
NESG sent 10 fighters to the Auf der Hut tournament this weekend. The 4 events were longsword, leather dusack, rapier, and mixed steel. There was an additional competition for the best use of a dagger during the longsword event, as well as an Exhibition of Excellence by the instructors who had spent all weekend as directors and judges. Everyone had a great time fighting our friends from other guilds and trying the events for weapons that our guild doesn’t train in. We hope to

Congratulations to all the fighters from NESG who went to the Green Chapel tournament this weekend. There were 4 events across two days: longsword, smallsword, rapier, and mixed steel. Ben made it into the direct elimination bracket for smallsword, and Daniel did the same in both longsword and rapier. Great work everyone!

The First Friday Fight Night!
This month we held our very first Friday Fight Night. We just can’t get enough of sparring with our friends, and with the growth we’ve had in the guild over the past couple years, we are able to support having an extra sparring night on the last Friday of every month. Our friends from other guilds are invited as well so we can have more fun outside of the more intense environment of a tournament.

Chicago Family Gathering 2025
NESG invaded Chicago once again this year for Family Gathering, bringing a record number of 11 guild members to the annual training event hosted by Chicago Swordplay Guild. We hope to bring at least that many folks again next year, especially since we already know that future Family Gatherings will be held in April - mark your calendar! The theme of this year was Curriculum vs Performance, so classes focused on things like taking what we learned in classes and figuring out ho
